Welcome to the world of Pro-Eating Disorders.

This world is dark, alluring, and addicting. It will suck you in and you will see things you have never seen before. It will begin with a curiosity, which will transform into fascination. This fascination will lead to desire. And before you know it, you will be caught so deep into this world that it will become your reality. And when that happens, you will learn to hate yourself - particularly your body - in ways you never thought possible. The following presents some examples of what you can find within this world.

Websites: Prettythin.com

"A site about beauty, in our eyes."

"I just wanted to say thank you for all that you've done for PrettyThin.com. I've been on a lot of websites like this, and I must say, yours is my favorite. This website has done so much for me and inspired me to try harder to reach my goals. Not only in weight, but in anything. It's shown me the motivation that I needed to obtain everything I want. I've had an eating disorder for a little over three years, and I've never told anybody about it. It's always been a secret and nobody ever asked. But, here, I feel like I can be open about it. I'm able to tell others about my aspirations of my body and hold true to them. I love being able to encourage other people to meet their goals, too. In here, there's never any fear of judgement or rejection. I mean, after all, we're all here for the same reasons."

YouTube: THINSPIRATION

"Watch this before you go to the fridge."

This is an example of one of thousands of "thinspiration" videos scattered on the net that serve as inspiration to for us to continue down our path of restricting. We have different genres of videos such as "realgirl thinspo" or "model thinspo" but the format remains the same: slideshows of images of bodies of other women that make us hate our own so much that it gives us strength to starve ourselves. Even if we haven't eaten for days.

Livejournal: "the_blue_sky"

"I wish I were perfect, but I've got so far to go."

Livejournal is an online community where users can keep journals and share it with other users within the community. It has long been a haven for those looking to join pro-eating disorder communities. The_blue_sky is one such user. A high school student at the time she appeared to engage with LJ the most, she is a member of a number of groups on LJ, including _realthin, _thinspire, ed_progresspics, and fastingfriends, among others.

In her bio page, she writes:

"I started at 165 pounds on June 27, 2006. I reached 117 in October, 2006. I ballooned back to 175 by February 2007. I'm 5'4.5". Keira Knightley is my thinspiration. I want to be small, I want the perfection."
